Flower & Memorial Items Placement Guidelines
In a continuing effort to maintain the beauty of the grounds of Linville Creek Church of the Brethren Cemetery and to expedite mowing and trimming, the following graveside policy will be in
effect as of: January 1, 2024
Allowed items:
1. Only metal based containers may be placed in the ground near the face of the headstone. It is highly recommended to use a flower base with a metal spike on the end. Consideration should be given to avoid top heaviness of the flower arrangement. Limit 2 bases per grave.
2. Wrought iron hangers (shepherd’s hooks) of 30 inches or less are recommended for hanging a small garden flag or wreath.
3. Arrangements may be placed on stones or monuments; special care should be taken to secure them in such a manner that they withstand strong winds.
4. American Flags are allowed to be placed as long as they are no taller than 20 inches in height, remain in a bright appearance and are not tattered or torn. They shall be placed so that they do not interfere with mowing.
5. Solar lights on a straight rod or shepherd’s hook of 30 inches or less may be placed in the ground near the face of the headstone.
Not allowed:
1. Not allowed to be placed on or in the ground:
Glass Styrofoam
Ceramic Wood
Plastic Aluminum foil
Clay vessels Stuffed animals
Toys Pictures
2. NO: Tall metal tripod arrangements are also prohibited due to their large footprints. The exception is the one- month period following a burial.
3. NO: Planting of any live flower, shrub or tree is prohibited either in the ground or in pots on individual graves or on family plots.
4. NO: Alcohol or illegal substances of any type.
Additional Conditions:
1. For new burials, these guidelines will take effect one month from the date of the funeral.
2. Linville Creek Church Cemetery reserves the right to remove:
a. Arrangements whose appearance is deemed unacceptable.
b. Holiday arrangements 8 weeks after the holiday.
c. Items that have blown or moved to areas between headstones.
d. American Flags that are tattered, torn, faded or have fallen over.
e. Any article that interferes with mowing.
3. The Cemetery is closed after dark and there is no trespassing in accordance with (Code of Virginia §18.2-125 Titled: Trespass
